Artist who use Science in their Art

Artist who use Science in their Art

I recently went to Toronto with my son and husband. We went to Legoland, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Ripley's Aquarium and the Ontario Science Center. While at the OSC I realized after seeing the Concussion: Mending Mind & Body exhibit that Art is a useful tool to explaining Science.
I know of other artists that use Science to guide their art as well. I have compiled a short list of artists.

This exhibition, a multimedia collaboration between artists and scientists, explores and interprets the challenges experienced by those recovering from concussion and other traumatic injuries.

Target by Jessica Halonen

Through processes known as ‘pharming' (combination of the words pharma and farming) introduces genes from one organism into another host organism in order to ‘grow' medicinal proteins. Through the "Target" drawings Jessica's project aims to visually respond to the science involved in altering an organism's DNA and to engage in a dialogue with the ethical issues that surround this process. The abstract forms of the sculptures are inspired in part from chemical formulas and molecular geometry, present an ordered system transformed into a chaotic mess, a tangled double-helix for example.

Contains a list of artists, scientists, art/science collaborations, projects and organizations who are working on issues related to the intersection of art, science and the environment.

A publication about artworks that deal with themes of science, nature and technology. Articles and links to artists are readily available.

We are interested in the ways in which science can inform the creation of art and the ways that art can be used to bring scientific concepts to non scientific audiences. Site has great resources and articles.
